SOUTH PERU CLASSIC (14 days)

This is a tour that is geographically concentrated in the region of southern Peru where we can find most of Peru’s famous landmarks. We arrive Lima, the only capital in South America on the Pacific Coast and with long historical traditions since the colonial times. For the Spanish colonial rule, Lima was for several centuries the most prominent city in the Americas. It was an administrative, commercial, cultural and religious epicentre for Spain. Already the day after arrival, we start our journey southward on the Panamericana highway along the Pacific coastline to Paracas, a sleepy coastal village. Here we will stay couple days and experience from the air the legendary mystical Nasca lines in the desert and by boat the wildlife along a very beautiful coastline to the islands of Ballestas. We return to Lima and the same day we will fly to one of Peru’s most beautiful cities, Arequipa, also called the white city. On our way to the highlands we must cross one of the world’s deepest canyons, where there are good possibilities to see the great condor in its natural habitat. Transportation on land gives us a more natural acclimatization to the altitudes of the high plateaus all the way to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. We will have a full day excursion on the lake and visit few islands, among them the floating totora islands where we will for the next night meet our host family from the Aymara-speaking ethnic group. Next day we will cross the vast and beautiful “Altiplano” all the way to Cusco. We are arriving the old capital of the Incas, today declared by the UNESCO as world heritage. The centre of Cusco is like a living historical museum with spectacular well intact architecture and monumental buildings both from the Inca and later the Spanish colonial era. The jewel of this journey comes to the end, the mythical and legendary Inca citadel Machu Picchu, hidden in the cloud forest on the edge to the Amazon basin. Back in Cusco we will have a well-deserved rest before returning to Lima.

THE PACIFIC – THE ANDES – THE AMAZON (15 days)

Our invitation for this journey reaches out to travellers who like an active vacation and with curiosity for experiencing the Peru’s vast contrast in nature and culture. We start in Lima, the city of the Kings, considered to be the most prominent city in the Americas during the Spanish colonial rule, as an administrative, commercial, cultural and religious epicentre. Already the day after arrival, we start our journey southward on the Panamericana highway along the Pacific coastline to Paracas, a sleepy coastal village. Here we will stay couple days and experience from the air the legendary mythical Nasca lines in the desert and by boat the wildlife along a very beautiful coastline to the islands of Ballestas. We eventually return to Lima and the same day we will fly up to Cusco, the historical Inca capital in the Andes mountains at 3400 masl. It is important to settle little bit in Cusco in order to feel the historical impact and its aura of the modern days. We continue the journey by car to the Inca’s Sacred Valley. A wonderful cultural landscape with many monumental archaeological sites that are a living testimony of a magnificent past with an incredible art of architecture and engineering. While observing the folklore and local life in this valley we are witnessing a true symbiosis between nature and a mighty cultural heritage, which is actually, although we don’t understand that yet, the essence of the Andean life-philosophy. In Ollantaytambo we will start our 4-day trek to Machu Picchu going from high Andes and down to tropical jungle, first by bike downhill two-thousand meters until we arrive high-jungle and from there on foot on Inca-trails in a tropical environment until we reach the foot of the legendary Machu Picchu. We will all the way be close to wonderful nature full of contrasts and along the way our guide will give us a deeper understanding of the Inca Andean life-philosophy and how that is influencing life in the Andes today. Back in Cusco we are taking a short flight over the last oriental mountain range before landing in the lowland jungle city of Puerto Maldonado. We are entering the natural reserve of Tambopata rainforest and we are going to live on a lodge deep into the forest for the next three days. We are here for experiencing the true energy of the rainforest with all its splendour of amazing biodiversity. We want to explore and see wild animals in their natural habitat, and we want to discover some secrets and the magic of the rainforest. In this environment it is important to have a very good guide, who can help us open up our senses for obtaining a good jungle-experience. The daily activities are run by optional half-day excursions into the forest from the lodge in between the meals. The lodge is really nice and exotic with good pleasant comfort and very good food.

FROM MACHU PICCHU TO GALAPAGOS (14 days)

This is a journey undoubtedly to the two most iconic tourist attractions in South America. We start in Lima, the city of the Kings, considered to be the most prominent city in the Americas during the Spanish colonial rule, as an administrative, commercial, cultural and religious epicentre. Today Lima is also considered to be the capital of South American high cuisine, and every year you will find two or three restaurants from Lima among the ten best restaurants in the world. Also worth mentioning about the Peruvian cuisine in general, World Travel Awards has for eight consecutive years voted Peru as the world leading culinary destination. Wherever you go in Peru, you can find fantastic food that suits all kinds of budgets. The journey continues with flight up to Cusco, the Inca capital of the Andes. The transition from the coastal modern metropolitan lifestyle to this world heritage city of the high Andes could not be more stunning. We are practically going back in history where you literally can see with your own eyes the sad destiny of the Incas written in the beautiful stonewalls towered over by splendid Spanish colonial architecture. We have to leave Cusco for few days for continuing the journey into the areas where we will encounter the most impressive monumental Inca landmarks in a true symbiosis with the nature and cultural landscape. We are entering the wonderful Inca’s Sacred Valley that will by train eventually lead us to the legendary Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, hidden in the cloud forest on the edge to the Amazon basin. Back in Cusco we will have a well-deserved rest before returning to Lima.

From a great culture destination to a great nature destination, we are on our way to the Galapagos islands. Galapagos is a wonderfully protected ecosystem far into the Pacific Ocean with a unique fauna. The best way to experience this is from a private small yacht. We land in Guayaquil or in Quito before entering a new airplane to one of the Islands in Galapagos, normally San Cristobal. We head directly out to the harbour where our private yacht is waiting for us. This is a boat for 16 to 20 passengers. There are ten cabins, all nice panorama views out to the sea. The next four days this will be our new home. This a nice an intimate yacht navigating from island to island. Every morning we wake up to a different view and a different island. All the daily excursions are with professional guide, a walk on the island or snorkelling in the sea. All the meals we will have on the boat. From Galapagos we fly back to the continent and up to Quito, capital of Ecuador. We will have couple nights in this charming and friendly world heritage city before returning back home.
